Strategies and Techniques

October on our tailwater rivers can bring in a bunch of different aquatic bugs to emergence. You will see Mahogany Duns, Pink Alberts (SF Boise River) Caddis and towards the end BWO’s On the SF Boise River Pink Alberts can be used effectively all month. You can fish this fly blindly through likely looking water. The Pink Cahill will be effective with its bright pink color as an attractant when floated blindly. Fall is Mahogany Dun time. And of course having the correct emerger pattern to match your dry fly will make you that much more effective on the water. You may even come across a Trico Spinner fall which many anglers confuse with trout feeding on Midges.
